Do you believe?

Reaffirmation
Rededication
Returning
Remembering his baptism.

His past was behind him.
He stood in the space of a moment,
Between what was,
and what could be.
Which would he choose?

He stood facing Joe,
Trying to make a new start,
Leaving behind the past.
Turning from sin to God.

Do you believe it, Theodore?
Do you believe God loves you?
Do you understand that everything --
no matter what happened in the past,
Everything.
Everything is forgiven by God.
O, God, help his unbelief.
O, God, help my unbelief.

Do you believe it, Theodore?
Do you believe that he died for you?
Do you understand,
Can any of us grasp,
That if you had been the only one,
If his death had meant that only you were found,
That he would have given his life,
Only for you?
Only for me?
O, God, how can he believe it?
O, God, how can any of us possibly believe it?

Do you believe it, Theodore,
Do you feel the grace of the water?
Do you remember what it was like,
when God first claimed you for his own?
Do you realize, can you believe,
That he never let go?
That he is still holding on,
even now, even you?
Even me?

O, God, help his unbelief,
O, God, help my unbelief.
O, God, may grace overflow
May forgiveness wash away the past,
And may we all remember,
And believe.
