I'll sing your song

I’ll sing your song for you.
Even though I may not understand the words,
Or like the tune,
If God can reach you
Through your song,
Then I’ll sing it for you.

I’ll ask you to forgive the wrong notes,
The weird key changes,
And the mistakes in timing,
Because I am bound to get in His way.
Listen past me for His love,
Because that’s the reason for the song.

The song you need
To hear God’s tune
May be food.
A warm place to sleep.
Clothes. Shoes.
Freedom from the fear of hunger.

I’ll sing your song for you,
If you will listen past me for His love.

The song you need
To hear God’s tune,
May be friendship.
Words of affirmation.
A listening ear and a silent tune.
A springboard or a hand,
Extended in fellowship.

I’ll sing your song for you,
If you promise to listen past me for His love.

The song you need
To hear God’s tune,
May be the truth.
Sometimes that song isn’t pleasant.
Sometimes it’s not melodious.
But usually it’s rich.
Deep with underlying counterpoints.
Gospel.

I’ll sing your song for you,
If you'll try to listen past me for His love.

The song you need
To hear God’s tune,
May be worship.
Songs sung that I don’t like.
Prayers that I don’t understand.
A tune that means nothing to me.
It’s your song; not mine.
And I’ll sing it for you,
If it will bring you closer to God.

I’ll sing your song for you.
Even though I may not understand the words,
Or like the tune,
If God can reach you
Through your song,
Then I’ll sing it for you.

I’ll ask you to forgive the wrong notes,
The weird key changes,
And the mistakes in timing,
Because I am bound to get in His way.
Listen past me for His love,
Because that’s the reason for the song.

The time will come
Not long from now,
When I will need to hear God.
You can sing my song for me.
That’s what we do.
That’s how we love each other.
That’s the beauty of singing
God’s song.
